What got you interested in music initially?

I started playing guitar at 13, mostly because my sister started playing bass and I got jealous! My dad was a huge guitar fan though and really influenced me a lot with getting into the guitar.

Tell us about your musical story growing up

I was mostly self-taught at first, learning classic rock and blues. In high school, I ended up joining the Jazz Band and studied privately with a remarkable teacher who really opened my eyes to all sorts of music, beyond just the guitar. I ended up enjoying it so much I went to Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle and received a BA in Jazz Studies.

What are your current music projects and aspirations?

Currently, my main band is an Outlaw Country group, which has been a fun challenge! Besides that, I work on my more jazz influenced compositions and improvisations.

Who inspires you?

My greatest musical influences include Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, John Coltrane, and Thelonious Monk. I also am a bit of a movie buff, and I love to draw inspiration from my favorite films and directors.

What is your message to aspiring artists?

Listen to as much music as you possibly can. We have unlimited access to all kinds of music, and you'd be surprised what pops up in your voice when you absorb as much as you can.
