What sparked your passion for music?
I have loved music for as long as I’ve
lived. My passion was solidified in my high school marching band where I witnessed how playing music could build confidence, independence, and community among young
people.
How’d your music go from there?
From there, I’ve simply been drawn to music
like a moth to a flame and took on as many playing opportunities as I could find as a low brass player. Eventually, I would pursue music education at the bachelor’s level and pedagogy at the
Master’s level in college. I spent many years learning, teaching, and playing in Phoenix, Arizona. I’m always craving more musical knowledge, so I moved to Oregon in 2021 to start my
doctoral studies at the University of Oregon.
Who would you most wanna jam with?
Any Balkan brass, banda, or klezmer
ensemble. Maybe Snarky Puppy.
What do you express through your music?
Performing music expresses my true self, the
vividness of my imagination, and the depth of my emotions.
Your message to aspiring artists?
As an artist, relentlessly pursue your
truth. The music you love most and want to create might not be for everyone, and that’s okay. You will find your audience and community by doing what you
enjoy.
